ALEX KIRK: But the Opposition's emissions trading spokesman Andrew Robb is insisting the legislation should be deferred until after the Copenhagen talks and the United States' legislation is settled.
ANDREW ROBB: Now that the Government has been given a truly Australian position on targets to be negotiated at Copenhagen, there is absolutely no excuse, no reason to ram their deeply flawed scheme through the Parliament.
ALEX KIRK: She (Senator Wong) warns Coalition MPs they face the prospect of having to explain to the people why they voted down action on climate change, capitalising on the fear many Liberals have of going to an election painted as climate change sceptics.
But Andrew Robb is holding the line.
ANDREW ROBB: The Government appears to be playing politics with this. They're the only ones talking about double dissolutions.
ALEX KIRK: And on a double dissolution election on emissions trading scheme.
ANDREW ROBB: It was not a topic of conversation in the party room. They looked at this scheme on its merits.
