Portfolio Media Releases, Emissions Trading Scheme
SUSAN MCDONALD: Kevin Rudd is just as forthright about the carbon emissions trading scheme. It comes before the Senate in a few weeks and support is scant. The Government's preference is to secure the Coalition's votes, but their position is still cloudy.
The Opposition's released an independent study saying the scheme doesn't model many of the risks to industries and jobs.
DAVID PEARCE, CIE: Our problem is that there's no real demonstration of that proposition, there is no empirical comparison of the CPRS with other possible alternatives that demonstrates it really is lowest possible cost.
SUSAN MCDONALD: So the Coalition is likely to demand changes.
ANDREW ROBB: Something which is effective will not threaten tens of thousands of jobs and will lead to deep cuts.
