Goldstein Media Releases, Community, Funding
Bayside and Glen Eira community organisations have kick-started 2010 receiving a total of $97,705 worth of funding as part of the Volunteer Grants 2009. 32 organisations across the local area successfully applied and will now receive grants valued between $1,000 and $5,000.
Community organisations use this funding to purchase small equipment such as computers, barbecues, first aid kits and fridges, or to reimburse fuel costs. Sandringham Bowls Club for example is purchasing a vacuum cleaner, shed and digital television.
“I would like to congratulate all 32 community organisations. This level of funding is testament to the wonderful work our selfless volunteers carry out each and every day in the local area,” Andrew Robb, Federal Member for Goldstein, said.
The Coalition was the first to recognise the importance of community organisations and volunteers in our society. Between 2001 and 2007 $62 million was distributed to more than 29,000 community organisations Australia wide.
“Support for community organisations in essential. It is community organisations and volunteers who make Bayside and Glen Eira such a great place to live.
“Whether it is a sporting club, church group, or scout troop, each organisation enhances our sense of community,” Mr Robb said.
