Bentleigh and Brighton Benefit from Funding

Bentleigh RSL Sub-Branch and Brighton Bowling and Sporting Club are to be congratulated for their recently successful applications for funding under the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Veteran and Community Grants program.

The Bentleigh RSL Sub-Branch, Welfare Patriotic Fund, is to receive three grants: $3300 to fund a series of bus trips for war widows to help reduce social isolation; $2284 to help purchase a television and DVD player for use by members at club activities; and $3300 to help run a series of social excursions for the Women’s Auxiliary members.

Brighton Bowling and Sporting Club will receive $7206 to help purchase and install a sun shade at the Club.

“The services provided by both Bentleigh RSL Sub-Branch and Brighton Bowling and Sporting Club are invaluable.

“The received funding is well deserved and I look forward to seeing it in action,” Andrew Robb, Federal Member for Goldstein, said.

Applications for the second round of funding under the program are currently being accepted.

“I strongly urge other Bayside and Glen Eira community organisations to apply,” Mr Robb said.

The program is designed to assists veteran and ex-service organisations reduce isolation and improve services for veterans and their families across the community. Funding can be used for activities such as a bus trip to visit an attraction, for productions such as a newsletter about certain events, or for small capital works such as an air conditioner.

Second round applications must be received by the Department or post marked by Friday 14 May 2010.
