Goldstein Media Releases, Community, Funding
The Australian Government has today announced funding to continue its previously successful Local Answers initiatives and the Volunteer Small Equipment Grants.
$19 million has been committed for the Local Initiatives program and $3 million for the Volunteer Small Equipment Grants.
The Local Answers initiative provides funding for local, small scale, time limited projects designed to help communities develop their own solutions to local problems.
Previous funding for Local Answers initiatives have been spent on things like programs to help families develop better parenting skills, relationship skills and supporting mentoring and leadership programs.
The Volunteer Small Equipment Grants provide community volunteer organisations with up to $3000 to purchase small equipment to assist them with their contribution to the community.
Previous grants have been used to purchase things such as urns, cup and saucers, microwaves and other small appliances.
Andrew Robb AO MP said "I encourage all local community groups to apply for funding from these programs. Volunteer community organisations provide a vital service to their communities and the Government is committed to ensuring that they can continue this excellent work by providing funding through these programs. "
Further information and application for these programs can be found at www.facs.gov.au/sfcs or by calling the toll free Hotline on 1800 153 477.
Applications close Friday 4 March 2004
