Andrew Robb, the Federal Member Goldstein today announced that the Bayside Council will receive Australian Government funding of $3,711,162 million in the 2005-06 financial year.

“The Local Government Financial Assistance Grants help Bayside Council to provide services to all residents” said Andrew Robb.

“Funds from these grants are generally used to provide a range of health, community, recreational, cultural and environmental services and well as providing and maintaining some infrastructure such as local roads.”

“These Federal Government grants are also untied so that that Bayside Council can allocate the funds according to their local priorities.”

The Local Government Financial Assistance grants is ongoing assistance that has been provided to local communities over the past 30 years. Nationally the Australian Government provides $1.617 billion in financial assistance grants to local governments, with Victoria receiving 23.5 per cent of the national total.

The first of the quarterly payment will occur in August.
