Goldstein Media Releases, Community
Five bayside community organisations will receive up to $5,000 each to implement new initiatives to improve community safety.
“Crime, and the fear of crime, rate amongst the highest concerns of the Australian community. There is no doubt that these five projects will help fight crime at a local level within the bayside community,” Andrew Robb, Federal Member for Goldstein said.
“The Australian Government believes that communities are in the best position to recognise local problems and find locally relevant solutions.
“These grants will help organisations like the Half Moon Bay Lifesaving and Swimming Club to install CCTV camera’s and an alarm system to improve the safety of the area at night, or the 1st Scout Group install lighting to deter graffiti and vandalism of the Scout hall,” Andrew Robb said.
“While the primary responsibility for the criminal justice system rests with the State and Territory governments, since 1996 the Australian Government has undertaken and supported a range of substantial initiatives aimed directly at reducing the incidence of crime and violence in Australia.
“The Small Grants Programme provides the additional resources often needed by small grass roots community groups to develop their own projects and find their own ways of getting people to work together to prevent crime and promote community safety.” Andrew Robb said.
“Congratulations again to the five groups on receiving this important grant – I commend their officials and staff for taking the initiative to apply for these grants which will be of ongoing benefit the community,” Andrew Robb said.
The successful local organisations are:
• The Brighton Hebrew Congregation - $4,958 to install security cameras on the Synagogue and Kindergarten property to improve the safety of the property users at night and during the day;
