The bayside community will now be able to enjoy the natural beauty of Ricketts Point whilst learning about local environmental issues.

A $45,000 Federal Government Grant awarded to Marine Care at Ricketts Point will enable the organisation to install signage and panel displays which will alert locals to information about the plant and marine life at Ricketts Point.

The project aims to increase the capacity for community groups, schools and the wider public to participate in education and interpretation on catchment wide environmental issues. This will be achieved through the development at Ricketts Point of interpretation signage and panel displays identifying key messages of marine protection, species diversity and water quality.

“This project will give local people a greater insight into the plant, animal and marine life that makes up the Ricketts Point sanctuary. It will be a wonderful learning resource for local schools, in particular,” Andrew Robb, Federal Member for Goldstein said.

“I congratulate the team at Marine Care at Rickett’s Point. They are a volunteer organisation who have undertaken a number of wonderful projects to ensure that the Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary is preserved and promoted.

“These grants are very competitive and I congratulate the volunteers who took the time and effort to lodge an application. It is testament to their dedication to the marine life at Ricketts Point,” Andrew Robb said.
