The Federal Member for Goldstein, Andrew Robb has congratulated the 31 Bayside community groups that have won funding for practical water-saving initiatives totaling $1.17 million which will save over 20 million litres of water in the Bayside area each year.
The Coalition Government’s Community Water Grants program encourages more efficient local water use and improvements in water quality through practical projects, such as reducing pollutants reaching our streams, water recycling and efficiency measures.
“The recipients of these grants must be commended for their great initiative and drive to preserve thousands of litres of water. Through their vision and success in gaining a grant they will make a significant difference to water conservation in the Bayside area,” Andrew Robb said.
Some of the community groups to be funded include the McKinnon Kindergarten Association, Beaumaris Lawn Tennis Club, Glenhuntly Primary School, Half Moon Bay Life Saving and Swimming Club, Sandringham Bowls Club, Highett Bowls Club, Gardenvale Primary School and Jack & Jill Beaumaris Kindergarten.
“One such example of great water saving plans is the joint initiative from the Bayside City Council and the Sandringham Bowls Club who received $119,375 in funding.
“Through practical measures such as harvesting stormwater from the roof of the bowls club and improving or replacing inefficient toilets they will be self-sufficient in water usage. This is a remarkable achievement,” Andrew Robb said.
In the previous two rounds of the Community Water Grants programme, Bayside community groups have shared in more than $300,000 worth of funding.
This new round of grants adds to the $300 million already invested by the Coalition Government in 8,000 local projects around Australia – already saving over 30 billion litres of water each year. That’s around 17,700 Olympic sized swimming pools.
Let’s keep working together to save our precious local water supply.
