Volunteers of the Sandringham Australian Volunteer Coast Guard have received a $10,855 funding boost to assist them with their service to the community.

Federal Member for Goldstein, Andrew Robb MP, praised the continued work of our Coast Guard volunteers.

The funding will be used by the Sandringham Volunteer Coast Guard to upgrade and enhance coast guard training facilities.

“The volunteers of the Sandringham Coast Guard provide vital assistance to those of us who use and enjoy our great Bay,” said Mr Robb.

“This funding will ensure they can continue to learn and improve their skills which will make us safer on the water”

In Australia some 500,000 people volunteer their services in an emergency management capacity, 350,000 of which are directly involved in emergency first response, principally through the various fire and State Emergency Services.

In the event of emergencies and disasters occurring in the local community, and around Australia, volunteers play a crucial role in assisting the community to respond and recover.

“Like all volunteers in our community, our Coast Guard volunteers should be commended for their continued commitment to keeping people safe,” Mr Robb said.
