Serious road black spots in Goldstein are to be fixed in coming months with new Government funding, Andrew Robb, Member for Goldstein said today.

Crucial funding for works at:

• Reserve Road, Park Road to Tulip Street, Sandringham to install traffic signals
• Thomas Street and McKinnon Road, Brighton East to install a roundabout
• Abbot and Station Street, Sandringham to install traffic management devices
(splitter island and kerb extensions)

“I am very pleased that the Federal Government has continued funding to fix these black spots,” Mr Robb said today.

“There is no doubt that serious accidents will be avoided through this funding and I urge the Government to look closely at many other dangerous sections of roads in the Bayside area that will be identified by the community in coming months and years.

“Federal Labor has flip-flopped on the importance of the Black Spots funding program over the years. Labor invented it but despite clear evidence of the lives saved and crashes avoided, abolished the program in the early 1990s.

“It took the Coalition’s return to Government in 1996 to reinstate this highly valuable program and fund it at an appropriate level. That allowed a large number of black spots in Goldstein to be fixed over the past 12 years, despite the failure of the State Government to meet what is its own infrastructure responsibility.

“I welcome Federal Labor’s decision to follow the Coalition’s lead on the Black Spots program,” said Mr Robb.
