As part of the Local Sporting Champions (LSC) program, young sportsmen and women in Bayside can apply for financial support to provide much needed assistance when competing at sporting competitions which require long distances to be travelled.
“Within the electorate of Goldstein there will be $9,000 per year available to help young sports people achieve their sporting goals and follow their dreams,” Andrew Robb MP, Federal Member for Goldstein said.
The program is available for young people between 12 and 18 years of age (inclusive), travelling more 250km return, to participate in a national sporting organisation, endorsed state or national sporting competition, or national school sports competition.
Under the initiative, successful individual applicants will receive $500 and successful team applicants will receive $3,000 to contribute towards the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment when competing in a nominated sporting competition.
“We have a strong sporting culture in Bayside and this is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and support the hard work and sacrifices that young sports people and their parents undertake to pursue excellence in their chosen sport.
“I strongly encourage young sports people in Bayside to apply for funding under this initiative and I very much look forward to being part of the program over the coming months and years,” Mr Robb said.
The deadline for Round 1 of the LSC program is Wednesday December 31.
A local grant assessment panel made up of community representatives will also be formed over the coming weeks to assist in selecting successful applicants. Those in the community who have a strong interest in sport and creating opportunities for our young people are encouraged to nominate before the deadline of Friday 12 December.
