Seventeen community groups in Bayside are to share in over $37,000 as part of the Volunteer Grants Program to help fund the activities of volunteers in our community who do so much to make Bayside a great place to live and work.

“The level of funding is a testament to the wonderful work that our selfless volunteers carry out each and every day in Bayside. Volunteers provide an invaluable service, whether through sporting groups, churches, scouts or other organisations as they enhance our sense of community,” Andrew Robb MP, Federal Member for Goldstein said.

The Sandringham Life Saving will purchase first aid equipment and reimburse fuel costs as part of its over $4,000 grant while the Bentleigh Family and Child Care Cooperative will use its grant of over $1,200 to help the sustainability of child care in the local area . Our local biodiversity will also get a boost with Marine Care Ricketts Point Inc in Black Rock receiving $2,000 to help educate and inform the community about the significance of our marine protected areas.

“I would like to congratulate all seventeen community organisations who have received a grant in this funding round, and wish them well in continuing the work that they do. These grants will be even more important given the current economic slowdown as our community organisations play an integral part in helping out those going through a tough time,” Mr Robb said.

The Coalition was the first to recognise the importance of volunteers in our society; distributing over $62 million to more than 29,000 organisations between 2001 and 2007.
