Three young musicians from Bayside helped lift spirits in Parliament House this week where they performed as part of the Australian Youth Orchestra’s tour programme. Rob Mantessi, Amelia Coleman and Sarah Kim successfully auditioned for the highly competitive places in the Orchestra.
The Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) has a reputation of being among the most prestigious training organisations for young pre-professional musicians in the world.
“It is a wonderful achievement by Rob, Amelia and Sarah to be chosen from over 900 applicants Australia wide who auditioned for a place in this highly reputed Youth Orchestra,” local Federal Member for Goldstein, Andrew Robb said.
Rob, playing trumpet, Amelia on Oboe and Sarah on Cello were part of an Orchestra that played to a full audience in the Great Hall of Parliament. The programme included the work of a variety of composers and ended with a tribute to the victims of the Victorian bushfires.
The Orchestra’s Concertmaster, in conjunction with its sponsors, also pledged to donate musical instruments to all primary schools destroyed in the recent Victorian bushfires.
“With only 100 musicians playing in Canberra as part of the tour, the Goldstein electorate was very well represented.
“I was thrilled to have the opportunity to listen to such a talented group of young people and I look forward to following the careers of Rob, Amelia and Sarah as they pursue their musical studies,” Mr Robb said.
