Goldstein Media Releases, Community, Funding
Now is not the time to politicise the building of the Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre, a critical local infrastructure project in Bayside. The State Labor Member for Bentleigh, Rob Hudson, should spend less time playing petty politics and more time supporting such developments.
The Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre, planned for Bailey Reserve, will have a 50 metre outdoor racing pool, a 25 metre indoor pool, spa and sauna, a waterslide, hydrotherapy pool and four basketball/netball courts.
“I am a strong advocate of the development of the Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre and I will continue to be so,” Andrew Robb, Federal Member for Goldstein, said.
Andrew Robb recognises the importance of recreational facilities and has supported actively numerous projects in our community. Since 2004, just some of the grants allocated for the Bayside area includes $300,000 to assist the building of a hydrotherapy pool at Berendale School and $437,500 for the Sandringham Yacht Club. Further substantial funding for Glen Eira City Council has also been gained.
“I will continue to lobby the Rudd Government to support local Bayside infrastructure developments such as the Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre, a project which will benefit many Bayside residents,” Mr Robb said.
Since coming to office, the Rudd Government has cut over half a billion dollars in local project funding, and is now desperately trying to rush funding through the system to cover its tracks.
“Mr Hudson has made a pathetic attempt to shift attention from his failure to improve the appalling state of the public transport system in our local area. The Sandringham line only three weeks ago was rated as the second worst for cancellations in Melbourne and the Frankston line wasn’t far behind.
“As Parliamentary Secretary for Public Transport he should get on with his job,” Mr Robb said.
