Bayside residents have an opportunity to honour Australia’s ANZACs, like 91 year old Trevor Limb of Black Rock, at many local services over the next week.
“Local World War II veteran, Trevor Limb, epitomises the great ANZAC spirit,” Andrew Robb, Federal Member for Goldstein, said.
Mr Limb enlisted in the Australian Army seventy years ago on 7 November 1939. As a member of the Sixth Division Calvary Regiment, he trained in Egypt and saw action in Libya and Syria. Today, he lives in Black Rock with his wife, Lois.
“ANZAC Day is an opportunity to give thanks to local people like Trevor. People who fought, and are fighting, to defend our democracy and the values we uphold.
“As a community we should encourage young Australians to seek a greater understanding of the ANZAC spirit and ensure the legend never fades,” Mr Robb said.
This can be done so by attending one of the numerous ANZAC Day Services that are taking place around Bayside on both Sunday 19 April and Saturday 25 April. Beaumaris RSL, Bentleigh RSL, Hampton RSL, Highett RSL and the City of Glen Eira are holding a range of events from Dawn Services to Two-Up.
“I would like to thank the men and women of these various organisations for the hard work in coordinating local ANZAC Day Services, and for their ongoing work in supporting and honouring our veterans,” Mr Robb said.
ANZAC Day commemorative guides are available from Andrew Robb’s office: 368 Centre Road, Bentleigh VIC 3204. A copy of the guide or the details of local ANZAC Day Services can also be obtained by calling the office on (03) 9557 4644.
