Goldstein Media Releases, Community, Funding
Local community organisations have the opportunity to develop projects designed to address racism and intolerance thanks to the Diverse Australia Program.
Funding between $5,000 and $50,000 is available for major projects of up to 12 months duration. Funding up to $5,000 is also available to help build the capacity of smaller organisations to implement community relations projects and manage government funding. Applications for funding are now open.
“Local community organisations should all look to take advantage of this program as a means of encouraging everyone to participate in all aspects of Australian life regardless of religious or cultural background.
“School communities, service clubs, sporting bodies, ethnic communities, youth organisations, local government authorities, universities, and colleges of education are among community organisations which would benefit from the program,” Andrew Robb, Federal Member for Goldstein, said.
Funding can be used for the development of mentoring and leadership programs, for the promotion of positive contributions by ethnic minorities, or for the establishment of outreach programs and activities. However, funding is not limited to these suggestions. If community organisations have their own ideas by which to strengthen social cohesion, proposals want to be heard.
Applications must be lodged with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship by 6pm EST, 8 May 2009. For application forms and guidelines please visit www.harmony.gov.au/funding or contact the Diverse Australia Program funding hotline on 1800 782 002.
