Goldstein Media Releases, Community

Say thanks to mum, laugh at dad’s lame jokes, give grandma and grandpa a call, or take the young ones to the footy… These are just some of the easy ways by which Bayside families can celebrate the 7th annual National Families Week, 10 to 16 May 2009.

Coinciding with the United Nations International Day of Families on 15 May and Mothers’ Day on 10 May, National Families Week is Australia’s main celebration of the importance of families.

“The family is the most important building block in our society and this has never been more apparent given the difficult economic circumstances many in the community currently face.

“It is therefore essential we all recognise the importance of those within our own families as well as celebrate the many different types of families we have across our local community,” Andrew Robb, Federal Member for Goldstein, said.

Bayside families can celebrate National Families Week amongst themselves by taking time to go for a picnic, to have a barbeque at home, or to just enjoy a walk together along the foreshore. Workplaces too, can assist celebration through the hosting of a family friendly day or development of a family photo display board.

“I encourage Bayside families to participate in National Families Week. In this increasingly complex world, the family unit is an important source of cohesion and stability.

“We can’t have a strong future without strong families,” Mr Robb said.
