Roads in the bayside area will receive a half million dollar boost from the 2006-07 Federal Budget, said Andrew Robb, the Federal Member for Goldstein.

Bayside City Council, which already receives $226,868 annually, will receive an additional $226,868 payment through the Roads to Recovery program, and Glen Eira Council will receive a further $256,111 on top of their $256,111 annual payment.

“This is significant funding to help local councils improve local road and traffic problems” said Andrew Robb.

“Both of these payments form part of the vital Roads to Recovery program which provides funding for local councils to spend on roads projects which they determine to be a priority for their council areas. The Government firmly believes that local people are best placed to know how and when to improve their local roads.”

“In addition to the funding received under the Roads to Recovery program, Glen Eira and Bayside City council will also benefit from a share in the $393 million Local Government Financial Assistance Grants allocated to Victorian councils.”

“This Budget has provided significant funds which should allow both Bayside City Council and the Glen Eira Council to continue improving local roads, and continuing to run the programs which are so vital to the bayside community.”
