The federal electorate of Goldstein is in inner city bayside Melbourne.

Goldstein is around 49 square kilometres in size and extends from Elsternwick in the north, Beaumaris in the south, the Frankston railway line in the east and Port Phillip Bay in the west.

Goldstein includes all or parts of the suburbs of Beaumaris, Bentleigh, Black Rock, Brighton, Brighton East, Carnegie, Caulfield South, Cheltenham, Elsternwick, Gardenvale, Glenhuntly, Hampton, Hampton East, Highett, McKinnon, Moorabbin, Ormond and Sandringham.

Goldstein borders the electorates of Melbourne Ports, Higgins, Hotham and Issacs.

History

Goldstein was named after Vida Goldstein (1869 - 1949) a prominent Melbourne suffragette who has been regarded as one of the most remarkable women of her time. Vida was the first female candidate for Parliamentary election in the British Empire.

Goldstein was first proclaimed in 1984. It was previously the seat of Balaclava which was one of the four original electorates of Melbourne at that time of Federation.
